- Note: The date of burial above is required by the presence of the quadrig., but since the hd. was first dispersed and then reassembled, its anomalous composition is bound to be suspect. Neapolis, Velia, Thurium and the Pegasi form a reasonable early 3rd cent. nucleus; the quadrig. alone is much later; Metapontum, Caulonia and Croton very much earlier. The total absence of coins of Taras from a hd. of this area is surprising
